Tasting and Tours at the Kern County Museum

It was an honor to be invited to the Kern County Museum's Tasting and Tours coordinated by Linda Rangel of Rangel Catering. It was so nice to get to know the other vendors better and of course to meet the brides-to-be! The food was amazing! The photos simply don't do it justice. The twice-baked potatos were to die for along with the stuffed mushroom - yummy! The beautiful floral arrangements, linens and decor were provided by Melissa Jolly of Four Seasons Floral Design and live music was provided by Valley Entertainment Group 661.809.8664. And last but not least the historical location is always a crowd pleaser when it's the Kern County Museum. It was nice talking with you Elizabeth and we'll be in touch about further projects.

Adam and I took a drive to my old stomping ground to meet up with the Lachance family. We've had the pleasure of photographing their blue-eyed boy before but his baby sister just arrived October 29th. What a beauty and with the same adorable cheeks! Our favorite shot of Gabby we named the heavenly pose. She looks just like a little angel. This is a great one of Zak too; love the tongue! I had the opportunity to work with Virgil Miller, owner of Video Memories. Virgil ontracted me to photograph a two-day kick-off event for Oxy Petroleum. Wow, now there's a company that cares about their employees. It was catered by one of my favorite resturants in town, Coconut Joe's (email of photos coming your way). One of the surprises was a guest appearance by USC's marching band! Now, I am UCLA girl to the core and some of my former classmates may never speak to me again but....I must admit they absolutely rocked! Sorry Bruins!

Homeless in America

Being without a home is something most people can't ever imagine but it's happening to more and more as our economy struggles to recover. We spent the day as volunteers taking family photos for residents of the local Homeless Shelter. These are everyday Americans like you and I that are going through a tough time and it filled our hearts to be able to do something nice for them. We met several families and many young children.

I am ashamed to admit that it has been a few years since I have volunteered but I am recommitted to helping more regularly at the center as well as with several other community based programs. Sometimes it takes a healthy dose of reality to put things in perspective and remember what's important in your life.

We had an exciting day with Rinet and Peter in Las Vegas. They are getting married in August in LA but decided to have one last wild and crazy weekend before their big day! It was blistering hot with temperatures reaching 112 degrees. Ouch! But none-the-less we had a great time and got some wonderful shots of them. Plus, Adam and I were able to squeeze in some couple-time after their shoot which is always nice. :-) Hope you two had a safe trip home.

I finally had a chance to go through our Father’s Day pics. There were some great ones of the kiddos with daddy but this was one of my favorites from our trip– it’s a “G”. See it? It was cool because it rolled in with the tide and was perfectly placed in front of me as the wave washed away, just like a scene in a movie!

Yesterday was my husband’s birthday and I thought this was a great photo to celebrate him. He is one of the kindest and most sincere individuals I have ever known and I am thankful to him everyday for making me Mrs. "G".

My Z

If you follow our blog or frequent our website, you know that posed shots are NOT are "thing". Our style is relaxed and very candid, especially when it comes to kids. When I started in photography 9 years ago, my very first experience was with an old-school traditionalist. He taught me all about film, developing, posing, lighting, what clients should wear...everything. I am so grateful to him for giving me such a solid foundation but the most important thing I learned was my style. I don't like forced expressions. It's a hit and miss and I don't gamble. Either you have someone that is naturally comfortable with a camera in front of them and therefore looks natural or you have someone that feels awkward and therefore looks awkward. No thank you. Not that there is anything wrong with posing and not to criticize those that do it. I just prefer to photograph people being people whenever possible.

This is my niece. She just turned five and will be going to kindergarden this year. Although she is looking directly at the camera, she was actually playing hide-and-go-seek when these were taken. Her expression is sincere and beautiful. I love you Z and thanks for letting me share!

I had a GREAT time with twins J and M today. Energy doesn't come close to describing what is running through the veins of these two! They were awesome but I think by the end of the session they were tired of looking for Yo Gabba Gabba, Blues Clues and whatever else I could think of to get their attention... Sometimes things don’t turn out as you plan and you kind of have to roll with it. What was going to be our summer vacation turned into a stay-cation! With my grandma still in the hospital, I just didn’t feel comfortable going out of town. Besides, last summer we really over did it travel-wise by visiting Florida, Nevada, Oregon and Washington all within 8 weeks. We were pretty spent when we finally got home for good. We do have some travel time planned for next month but well see how it goes. Really it is pretty much all the same for our family; especially the kids. What never ceases to amaze me is how adaptable kids are. Their smiles are always genuine whether we are in front of the Castle at Walt Disney World or enjoying a summer snack in the backyard. I came across this entry on a friend's blog and I feel unbelievably compelled to help any way I know how. I saw this little boy's face and immediately thought that he could just as easily be my little guy. I have so much admiration for those who have the strength to cope with such an experience. We have had a roller coaster of a week. My grandmother (Grammy as I call her and MeMaw as the kids call her) was taken to the hospital in an ambulance Monday night. She wasn't breathing and didn't have a pulse when she arrived at the hospital. We were told she was on a ventilator and would need surgery within the next 24 hours to save her life. The problem was that she would have to be taken off the ventilator before this could be done and the doctors didn't seem to think this was possible. We were devastated. Expecting the worst, we all took deep breathes and said our prayers. Well, she made it. She had the surgery and is recovering well. We don't expect her to come home anytime soon but we were told the worst is over. Today's post is one of MeMaw and her little pumpkin. We love you Gram and hope you get better soon.

I had the privilege of working with Fatima & Joey this afternoon for their engagement session. With each new couple I meet, I try to guess how they met, their personality and style preferences. These two threw me for a loop! All I can say is, sometimes we do crazy things in the name of love. I am glad it all came together in the end. Congratulations and I can’t wait to photograph your wedding!

Happy Birthday kiddo! I really like this shot despite it's imperfections. The backdrop is not perfectly straight and there is some shadowing but I think it gives it an artistic feel. Plus, his expression is so determined and serious. I get pretty serious about cake too L!

I had a lovely morning with Alison and her beautiful family. Her newest addition is Miss L. She is so adorable and I am convinced she’s a baby genius! Check it out – she can roll over and even crawl at 1 week of age! Well, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration but she is definitely advanced for being a newbie. Alison will have her hands full with this little lady, that’s for sure.
